Luna Matto's vocals can silence a crowded bar whether or not she is playing with a full band or just herself and guitar. Luna's voice often brings to mind women ranging from Cat Power to Hope Sandoval. Her lyrics sink deep into the mind like a smooth scotch as she gives us a peak into her past and present.

Luna started piano lessons when she was 5. Her first piano teacher was a busty 76 year old woman who was tone-deaf, as Luna describes, and took up most of the room on the bench.

When Luna turned 9, her eccentric mother decided that she should become a ventriloquist who sings show tunes. After a short discussion, the puppet was ordered and it was wagered by her parents that Luna probably had enough talent to teach herself how to be a ventriloquist. When the puppet arrived as a MALE doll due to a shipping error, Luna rejected the idea altogether – but alas, being only 9 years old, ended up on stage anyway at a local talent competition just days later singing, “I Choose to Be Happy” with her male doll. She never mastered ventriloquism.

Under her mother’s direction, Luna performed in talent auditions throughout the United States until the age of 13. Shortly after, she picked up the guitar and first started writing her own music.
